OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
I know it's a bit early to be thinking about Christmas, but today Eva and I went to the dollar store to make a Christmas shoe box for a needy child in another part of the world. We played "rock, paper, scissors" to decided if we wanted to buy for a boy or a girl. I won, so that meant we were going to buy for a girl (don't ask me, Eva came up with the rules). Originally, we were going to play again to decided which age group to buy for, but that all went to pot as we soon discovered that 5-9 year olds are way more fun to buy for then the other 2 age groups.
Later on this week we'll wrap the shoebox and take it to Christian ministries.
I often wonder if Christians in America take ministry seriously. I mean, sure we've got the suit and tie, the nice building to meet in, the white picket fence and our brick house suburb. With all that stuff, I think we have decided that ministry has to be flashy and elegant or something, like we have to attract people to God with big lights and large buildings full of nice looking people. Sometimes we even fall into the trap of thinking that we have to see the results of our ministry, just so we can feel good inside. Eva's and my contribution to ministry will not amount to even 10 dollars apiece, and we will probably never see the results of what we're doing. But it's okay, because we have a teddy bear, fake jewelry, colored pens with fuzzy things on top, and a coloring book with crayons.
I believe God will change a life; not because of what we look like or how we did things, but because we did something. God doesn't care about what the harvesters look like or how they harvest, he just needs harvesters! The job isn't hard. Matter of fact, it can be as easy as a teddy bear, fake jewelry, colored pens with fuzzy things on top, and a coloring book with crayons.
