BACKPACKING TRIP
That's right, this past weekend Matt Clark and I went backpacking at Red River Gorge in KY. We logged a total of approximately 27 miles in two days, 19 of them with rucksacks. The park is full of natural rock arches and rock outcroppings. We were only able to visit four arches and two major outcroppings in our two days, but we sure had fun doing it! I ended up taking over a hundred pictures of the trip, mostly of us repelling off of Gray's arch and the sun set and sun rise at our campsite on Sunday night. Here are some of the more memorable moments of the trip:
The speeding ticket
Getting ripped off at the shell gas station
Getting severe cramps in both my calf muscles after 11 miles of difficult tertian with a rucksack and combat boots
The cold stream and cell phone
Good conversation about girls
Waking up 20 billion times from being cold in the middle of the night
Trail running? Haha
All the hung over and high campers
Hiking up the unmarked trail to chimney top rock (aka, straight up the side of the mounting)
The dog that followed us all the way back down the mountain
Matt getting hit on by a 40 something year old guy
Repelling off of Gray's arch (we didn't find out it was illegal until after we did it!)
Matt flipping upside down on the repel
Me almost hitting my head on the rock on the repel
The campers who we watched hike all the way down the mountain to get firewood from the valley (we on the other hand found fire wood no more then 100 meters away – and who goes hiking in a bikini top anyway?)
Sun bathing on top of the world
Scaring all the sightseers away with Matt's short shorts
The "dating" couple
Surprising my parents with a phone call
The sun set (darn clouds!)
Star gazing
The sun rise (6:16 in the morning – according to my watch)
Taking a dump at a civilized gas station after we left the park
